 | Help - Need someone to pull the trailer
Hello Everyone,
We are in need of a person(s) to pull the trailer next year. The
Pride Band parent who has been pulling the trailer for the last
several years has job and school commitments that make it impossible
for him to continue next year. We thought we had a volunteer lined
up to take over the trailer hauling duties but that person is no
longer able to help due to unforeseen things going on in his life.
If you are able to volunteer, or if you know of anyone who is able
to help, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can give
you the information needed.
The commitment would be for pulling the trailer at home games
(approximately 5 per year), taking the trailer to Missouri Western
in St. Joe for the marching competition in October (usually the
second Tuesday), the Gladfest Parade, and Snake Saturday Parade
(both parades on Saturdays). There may also be times during the year
the trailer is needed, but these are the eight main opportunities
for us to help our kids. This is a very real need as our kids will
not be able to participate in these activities if they do not have a
way to get their instruments to the various locations.
Thank you in advance for considering this opportunity to volunteer
for the best marching band around..........PRIDE!!!

 | City Hall Proclamation
Our WHS band will be honored with a Proclamation from City Hall,
recognizing them for their Carnegie Hall performance.
Buses will transport band members to City Hall on Thursday, May 15
at 2 PM
The City Council meets at 3 PM. We will be among the first business
to be done. If this is like in the past, they make some comments
about our kids, and they read the proclamation, the kids line up
around the City Council Chambers and then shake hands with the Mayor
and City Councilmen and Councilwomen.
PARENTS are invited to attend: bring your cameras!
That would be a great day for all of us to wear our Carnegie Hall
button down shirt.
Buses will return to WHS approximately 4:30 PM
Senior Honor Night is later that evening.

 | Note from Ms. Setser
Dear Pride's Proud Parents:
I'd like to start by thanking each and every parent and guardian who
brought a kid to practice, hemmed pants, encouraged a kid, cheered
in the stands, built a MoDot truck, set out buckets and sticks,
picked up flats, made sandwiches, hauled equipment, got donuts and
water, worked all night at a march-athon. The parent support
for this band is incredible and we know it. Winnetonka would
never have had the success it's had in the past years without
dedicated parents. We would never had taken any trip anywhere.
No trophies on the shelf. No lifetime memories. Nothing and
believe folks, there are plenty of bands who have that experience.
Our goal, as it is every year and with every performance, whether it
is marching band, pep band, symphonic band, or a solo or ensemble;
is to do our very best. I firmly believe that if we do our
best, we will take care of business and be among the top places.
We achieved our goal. We did a very nice show, a strong performance
and finished second. We took on a lot of larger bands and we
did well against them. I have no qualms about our performance.
We did our best and we were fairly judged. I can't ask for
more than that. Our kids and parents who saw the show, were
pleased as was our entire staff. A lot of smiles after that
performance. That's what counts. What six people, the
judges, you never met thought, is just their opinion. I'm not
going to change my mind about what I saw and heard. I am proud
of that performance and proud to be the band director. I heard
a lot of good comments from people outside our school and getting an
standing ovation from Oak Park means a lot more to me than a trophy.
That's a sister school showing respect for our band. Ray South was
also very complimentary and loved the show. They skipped
taking their photo to get in the stands to see our band.
Mighty cool in my book.
November 13 we have an important parents meeting. We will be
able to talk in more detail about our Carnegie trip. Please
plan on attending, it should not be a long meeting, but we should be
able to give more details and give you a better idea of how the trip
will run. Next payment of $300 is due November. We are
starting a sale which could potentially bring us a lot of cash.
We will be rolling it out Tuesday Oct 23. The sale runs two
weekends. We will collect the money up front which will help
with our December payment. Items purchased will be delivered
Nov 29.
Only our last show awaits us: October 26 - Senior Night.
Banquet follows and you are invited to come see the awards.
Pizza is free for kids and available to us for $2 a slice.
Banquet runs from 30 minutes after the game to 11:45 PM in our
cafeteria.
Sincerely
Pat Setser |
